Job description: Field Laborer / Operator Trainee

Scenic City Enterprises — Belgrade/Bozeman, Montana
Starting pay: $24–$27 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Full-time | Overtime opportunities

About Us:

Scenic City Enterprises is hiring a dependable Field Laborer / Operator Trainee to assist throughout our operations.

This is a hands-on entry-level position for someone interested in learning several types of work rather than being assigned to only one service. Depending on company needs, the employee may assist with septic pumping, grease-trap service, hydro excavation, hauling support, line jetting, sewer-camera work, disposal operations, shop work and other field services.

Previous industry experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train someone who is dependable, safety-minded and interested in developing into a skilled CDL operator.

How to Apply

Submit your work history, contact information and a short explanation of why you are interested in the position.

Please include:

  • Your current driver’s-license status

  • Any CDL, equipment, construction, mechanical, agricultural or outdoor-labor experience

  • Your availability and earliest possible start date

  • Two work references

Benefits:

  • 401(k)

  • 401(k) matching

  • Dental insurance

  • Employee discount

  • Flexible schedule

  • Health insurance

  • On-the-job training

  • Paid time off

  • Vision insurance

What You’ll Do

  • Assist operators and drivers on a variety of field jobs

  • Set up, move and clean hoses, tools and jobsite equipment

  • Help prepare trucks and equipment for scheduled work

  • Perform truck cleanup and assist with routine inspections and equipment care

  • Maintain safe, clean and organized jobsites

  • Follow job instructions and company safety procedures

  • Complete required paperwork and job documentation

  • Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers

  • Work in the shop or assist another service area when needed

  • Learn Scenic City’s trucks, equipment, services and operating procedures

This is physically demanding outdoor work performed in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Employees should be prepared for early starts and occasional overtime.

What We’re Looking For

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn

  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely

  • Willingness to assist wherever needed

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, pulling hoses and climbing on or around equipment

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

  • Reliable transportation to work

  • Professional behavior with customers and coworkers

  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately

  • Ability to work full-time and occasional overtime

Applicants must be able to meet applicable driving, employment and safety requirements.

Career and Pay Progression

Scenic City uses a structured field career ladder:

  • Field Trainee: $24–$27 per hour

  • Experienced Field Helper: $27–$30 per hour

  • CDL Operator Trainee: $30–$33 per hour

  • Independent Operator: $33–$36 per hour

Additional advancement is available for multi-service, senior and lead operators.

CDL Training Opportunity

After completing an initial 90-day training period, employees with strong attendance, safe work habits, reliable communication and consistent equipment care may be considered for Scenic City’s CDL training program.

The initial training path is generally a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement. Eligibility does not guarantee immediate entry into CDL training. Approval also depends on the employee’s driving record, supervisor recommendation, company training capacity and business needs.

Company-paid costs, training-time compensation and employee responsibilities will be explained in a written agreement before CDL training begins.

Completing a CDL does not automatically make an employee an independent operator. The employee must also demonstrate safe driving, equipment knowledge and the ability to perform operator responsibilities.
